Willow & Wellbeing Experience
Join us for a day of creativity and inner calm at the beautiful Birtley Woodland Art Space. This unique retreat combines the art of willow weaving with restorative wellbeing practices in a peaceful natural setting.
Guided by Lorraine Ellery Matthews (Willow Artist) and Amanda Weller (Wellbeing Practitioner), you’ll explore the art of willow weaving while discovering simple techniques to relax and reconnect with yourself.
What to expect:
Welcome & Intention Setting: Embracing creativity and self-connection.
Grounding and breathwork: Calm the mind and settle into the natural surroundings.
Introduction to Willow & Creative Exploration:
Learn about willow growing and its preparation for use.
Create your own unique piece of willow art—choose from freeform sculptures, mandalas, bird nests, wall hangings and more.
Seasonal Woodland Picnic: Enjoy a light seasonal lunch.
Flow & Creativity Session: Continue exploring willow weaving.
Willow & Energy Connection:
Discover how willow colours and textures connect with chakra energy as you create a small willow ring to take home.
Nature & Wellbeing Reflection:
Close the day with a guided meditation and reflection to leave feeling refreshed and inspired.
This is more than just a workshop—it’s a chance to slow down, connect with nature, and discover the joy of creating from the heart.

On arrival, you will be given a goody bag including a tin of watercolour tablets, brushes, palette, paper, hand-outs and a small vase or posy of flowers.
30 minute painting session to practise mark-making, experiment with different brushes and mix colours (eg. painting stems and various petal types) guided by Sarah and with handouts.
1 hour 30 minutes dedicated to painting fresh, locally sourced flowers. Sarah will be on hand to guide and demo throughout.

Painting can slow down the mind and body, helping to transport you to a place of peace and flow. With every drop of pigment and sweep of water, discover the quiet joy of presence and creativity.
No experience needed, just come as you are!
Please bring an apron.
15 minute session (optional with bare feet) on the grass within the tranquil walled garden to ground yourself and set a positive intention for the day.
15 minute breathwork session.
1 hour 30 minutes exploring the art of manifesting your dreams. This session will include the importance of positive language and self talk, visualisation work and more.
No experience needed, just bring an open mind (and a small towel to wipe your feet after being barefoot)!

The Garden Gallery is part of Farnham Museum which is situated in the centre of the historic market town of Farnham.
The secluded walled gardens are beautiful and will provide a peaceful setting for your retreat day.
We have private access to the gardens throughout the day.
Please bring a picnic hamper as we plan to eat lunch in the walled garden surrounded by the pretty flower beds.
Actively growing flowers in the walled garden in June:
Poppies, Foxgloves, Yarrow, Columbine, Mountain Bluet, Geranium, Roses, Alliums, Lilac and Mock Orange.
We recommend parking in the Waitrose car park as it is free on Sundays.
It’s a 5 minute walk to Farnham Museum from the car park.
Carpark address: Hart Car Park, Long Garden Way, GU9 7HA.
From there, on foot, head to Farnham Museum which is located on West Street. Walk down Bishop's Mead to the left of the building. There is a white wooden door (side entrance) which opens to the museum garden.
(Please do not park in Bishop's Mead as residents need constant access.)
